How to make money from a blog? Infolinks

I added another advertiser to my blog. Infolinks is the leading provider of In-Text advertising. You will now see text link advertisements within the content of my blog. If you hover the mouse over that link, you will see a floating information bubble with an ad. Every time someone clicks on an In-Text ad, you get paid. It's as simple as that. How much do I get per click? I'm not sure yet. I'll update you guys later.

How to make money? Social Interaction Study at McGill

Updated:
June 14, 2009
After 3 weeks of filling out boring forms, the social interaction study is finally over. We got paid $320 cash. Hard earned money!

May 24, 2009
A few months ago, we expressed interest in participating in a social interaction study for a McGill research while we were at the Salon de la Marié at the Palais Des Congrès. New openings for couples are now available and we have been invited to participate! We are now doing the study. Filling out a couple of forms for the next 20 days for any social interactions that occur during the day. The forms take 10 to 15 minutes per day and we get pay $160 each or $8 per day. Very good deal! Want to take part? Check back from time to time and I'll post any studies that I find.

What are the cheap things to do in Montreal? Go to Church!

What can you do on a Friday night in Montreal that is free? You can go to church to pray, to learn about religion, and to listen to a priest talk about God and the meaning of life. Sounds fun? Not for me. Unfortunately, I do not believe in God. I believe it is a scam. I would rather stay home and write in my blog for example. However, my girlfriend and her friends decided to go today. I guess they are interested in listening to morality today. Hey, at least it's free!

Cheap Ass in Montreal Blog Approved!

Last week, I submitted my blog to blogs.ca. Today, Cheap Ass in Montreal has officially been accepted and approved! You can see a link of the approved blog here. What will this do for my blog? Nothing much. It might increase traffic. I just wanted to point out how proud I am. :D

Your blog is marked as spam

Updated

June 12, 2009 00:07am

Oh my god oh my god, did you notice that my blog is no longer marked as spam? I am shocked. Google actually fixed it this time. Those idiots were actually quite quick oh my god! Cheap Ass in Montreal is officially reborn!

June 10, 2009 19:43am

One week later, my blog is still marked as spam. I click on the button to Request Unlock Review, and it is asking me to request an unlock review again! I proceed to click on more buttons to request the unlock and this is the new message I see:

Your blog is marked as spam

Blogger's spam-prevention robots have detected that your blog has characteristics of a spam blog. (What's a spam blog?) Since you're an actual person reading this, your blog is probably not a spam blog. Automated spam detection is inherently fuzzy, and we sincerely apologize for this false positive.

We received your unlock request on June 10, 2009. On behalf of the robots, we apologize for locking your non-spam blog. Please be patient while we take a look at your blog and verify that it is not spam.

Find out more about how Blogger is fighting spam blogs.

When are those idiots at Blogger or Google going to fix those stupid robots? If you are not capable of doing it, please give me a call and I'll write a new automated spam detection service for you. And I thought Google had the smartest and brightest engineers working for them.. please..

June 5, 2009 12:13am

After 48 hours, my blog is still marked as spam. I am really disappointed since the revenue generated from AdSense and adwords has dramatically declined during the last 48 hours. I will now begin looking for another web hosting solution. Maybe this time, I should get my own domain name instead of using another free web service.

June 3, 2009 12:13am

I just login to my blog and this is what I found:

Blogger's spam-prevention robots have detected that your blog has characteristics of a spam blog. (What's a spam blog?) UNBELIEVABLE! I should seriously consider changing to another platform.

Where to eat cheap food in Montreal? make dumplings at home

My girlfriend decided to make dumplings over the weekend. The ingredients were pork, shrimp, and vegetables. All of those were already available at home. The only thing we needed was to buy the dumpling wraps and the dumpling sauce for a total of $5. We made around 40 dumplings and finished them all. They were delicious. I even helped in making one dumpling, the one on the left in the second picture above. Looking good, right?

How to make money? Invest online!

The best way to make money is to invest. This is a complex subject which takes countless hours of research and analysis. Since I follow the markets daily, I would like to share with all of you my investment strategies. A blog about the stock market is not really relevant in my Cheap Ass in Montreal Blog. Therefore, I have decided to start a new blog: Montreal Investor. You can also find a link to my new blog in My Blog List on the left.

Where to eat in Montreal? review of Bar B Barn

Last Friday, I went to the Bar B Barn, Home of the world's greatest spareribs & chicken, with my girlfriend and two other friends. The ribs were good, but I would not call them the world's greatest. The portions were big. All four of us ordered the 6 ribs combo and none of us were able to finish. We ended up with 6 leftover ribs, which we took home. The price was fair. The service was good. Total cost at the end: $53 for two.

How to save and make money? Auto Insurance Quotes

Updated: Here is a link to my new Montreal Insurance Blog.

Today, I received a notice to pay my driver license fees. I just noticed that I haven't lost a single demerit point for the last 7 years and I should be getting a better insurance rate. I started looking for insurance online and auto insurance quotes and found several insurance companies. I have no idea which one will give me the best auto insurance coverage and the better rates even though most of them offer free online quotes. There seems to be a lack of sites to compare auto insurance, maybe it's a possibility to make money!

How to make money from a blog? Google AdWords

Have you ever wondered how much money Google AdSense generated in revenue per click? Or, have you asked yourself whether your content belong in a niche market that would generate high revenue? Well, you can now find the answer by visiting Google AdWords. This tool was meant to be used by advertiser to calculate their cost per click. But, my guess is that a large part of their cost will eventually end up in your pocket. I decided to test this tool by entering some keywords and here are some cost per click results:
  • money accounts = $14.18
  • blog = $3.13
  • movies = $0.93
As you can see, ads on money accounts cost a lot more than blog and movie advertisements. I should really consider writing more posts regarding money accounts and

What are the cheap things to do in Montreal? Go to Costco!

Last weekend, my girlfriend and I went to Costco. Why did we go there? Because we were bored and because there were lots of free stuff! Walk around the store and there's plenty of food tasting such as beer, wine, cake, chips, everything! You don't even need a membership card to go in the store if you are not planning to buy anything. Here are some options to get in for free:

1. Walk in with some strangers and pretend you are one big happy family
2. Eat at the restaurant and then make your way into the store
3. Pretend to get a membership card and sneak in the store

Free food and the excitement to sneak in the store, a great fun and cheap activity!

What are the cheap things to do in Montreal? Mondial de la Biere 2009

Mondial de la Biere, Montreal's annual beer tasting festival, is running from June 3 to June 7 at the Windsor Station and Courtyard Marriott Downtown Montreal. The admission is FREE! But, the beer is not. Tasting coupons are $1 each and the cost of one tasting ranges from 1 to 5 coupons. The quantity served per tasting is around 3 to 4 ounces. Basically, 100ml of beer for $1! Still pretty cheap and you also get a souvenir glass for your beer tasting. Not a bad deal!

Why am I so cheap 2?

My girlfriend has always said that I am too skinny and do not dress appropriately for someone of my size. Recently, she found a site which offered dressing tips for skinny men and pointed to me some of the mistakes I have made:

3. Fit for Fight
Now, as opposed to shirts, jackets need to be as fitted as possible. Wearing loose jacket is definitely a big NO-NO as it will make you look even thinner.

5. Vertical Stripes Are Not Cool
Not if you are skinny or even thin for that matter. Though vertical stripes are the current trend right now, wearing them tend to make you look more slender. So, it’s best to avoid them. If you feel that you MUST wear stripes, team it with a jacket or blazer.

7. Jacket Length
Jackets must not be too long nor too short and the ideal length should be somewhere near the buttocks. Jackets that are too long will drown a smaller person whereas shorter jackets will draw attention to skinny legs.

Since reading this article, we have been shopping for a jacket that would meet the above criteria. Unfortunately, jackets that fit skinny men vary from $200 to $400. This obviously is a no-no for a cheap ass such as myself. Therefore, you will soon be seeing me at a gym drinking protein drinks and making myself fat!

What are the cheap things to do in Montreal? Free Museum Day May 31st

Updated: We drove to the parking lot of the Montreal Biodome and one of the staff told us that the wait would be 2 hours. It was 2pm. We decided to leave and try the Planetarium instead. By the time we got there at 3pm, there was another huge lineup waiting for us. We gave up and went window shopping instead. Next year, I'll make sure that I wake up early and avoid those long lineups!

The Montreal Museums Day is back on May 31, 2009. Every last Sunday of May, Montreal museums offer free admission and public transit with 6 free bus routes to take you from one free exhibit to the other. A pretty good deal to me!

Where to eat cheap food in Montreal? special at Biftheque

Where to eat cheap food in Montreal? From May 27 to June 2, the Biftheque is offering a special for shrimp or filet mignon for only $16.95. This looks like a good deal to me since I had to pay more than $20 for a filet mignon the last time I went. One very tasty price indeed!

What I hate in Montreal? Metro

After writing so many great cheap things about Montreal, I decided to write about some of the things I hate in Montreal. Even though I don't take the metro, I learned today that the metro to downtown Montreal was shutdown during rush hour. How do I know that? I called my girlfriend who was trying to go to downtown. Obviously, my girlfriend was in a bad mood. But, I guess the delays today were justified. There was a bomb threat. Hopefully, this will make my girlfriend feel less pissed off.

How to make money from a blog? Amazon.ca Associates Central

How to make money from a blog? Get pay to advertise amazon products on your website. I can earn up to 15% in referral fees if users I refer to Amazon sites buy products! Basically, I just need to use their Product Advertising API, add some links to Amazon products and pray that someone will buy something. This sounds easy, right? Well, I'm not sure how much money I can make from this, but next time I need to buy something from Amazon, I might just refer myself to their site and save an extra 15%! Mwahahaha, I am evil! By the way, this picture shows the product that I find in Amazon.ca when I make a search for the word amazon. Weird.

Want some free stuff in Montreal? Watch TV for free!

It's the playoffs in the NBA with LeBron James and the Cavaliers versus Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic in the Eastern Conference and Kobe Bryant and the Lakers versus Carmelo Anthony and the Denver Nuggets. Sounds very interesting, right? Unfortunately, I am too cheap too pay for those cable sports channel such as TSN, RDS, and ESPN. But fortunately for me, I can watch it for free online. Yahoo! Sports has a huge gigantic link, which says "Watch Live" and links to a live coverage on TNT! Saves me from paying top dollars to my satellite provider.

Where to eat cheap food in Montreal? review of Chao Phraya

Where to eat in Montreal? We went to eat at Chao Phraya, a Thai restaurant on Friday night. They have a menu on their website which plays an annoying music and can't be turned off. Anyways, we were 8 person and shared some food together. My favorites were the mango salad and the seafood soup with coconut milk. The food was generally ok, some of the plates were a little bit too sweet and it was a bit expensive: $40 per person tax and tip included. Not a very cheap night in Montreal!

How to make money from a blog? Google AdSense

Since I'm a cheap ass, one of the goals of this blog is obviously to make money $! The first step I have taken to monetize my blog is to enable ads to run with Google AdSense. This is really simple to do. You just need to create an account with AdSense and copy their code into your blog and that's it! With blogger, it's even simpler! Login to your blog and click on the monetize tab and voilà. Now I just need to increase the traffic on my blog and maybe Text Link Ads will start accepting me as a publisher! Oh, and hopefully, someone will click on the.. wait, I think I'm not suppose to tell people to click. Nevermind!

Why am I so cheap?

If you are wondering why I am such a cheap ass, let's just say that I have a girlfriend who likes a lot of expensive stuff. She just bought the Deluxe Antibacterial Brush Set at Sephora for $79 CAD taxes not included. This is suppose to be a great deal and I have no idea why someone needs 7 different brushes that average $11.29 each. How many places can you brush? I don't understand, but as long as it makes my honey happy!

Victoria Day in Ottawa

I spent Victoria Day, also known as Journée nationale des patriotes in Quebec, visiting Ottawa for the Canadian Tulip Festival. The trip was great with perfect weather and stunningly beautiful tulips. But the best part was this: it was free!

We started our trip with breakfast at McDonalds with a
Sausage McMuffin with Egg Sandwich, Hash Brown, and Coffee for $4.50.

Next, we rode for 2 hours on a friend's 2003 Honda Accord LX. We kept ourselves busy by playing Mario Kart on our Nintendo DS again!

Finally, at 1pm, we parked our car for $3 near the Commissioner's Park and began our tulip trip. My friends were taking pictures with their super expensive Canon Rebel cameras while I was stuck with my point and shoot Sony Cybershot. My camera quickly ran out of battery because I was too stupid not to charge it the night before. Fortunately, some of my friends spend a lot of money and even had back-up batteries for their Rebel!

After 2 hours of walking and taking pictures, we finally left for Chinatown Ottawa and had lunch at 3pm at the Mee Xim Vietnamese Restaurant. My girlfriend had a Grilled Pork Chop with Rice while I had the BBQ Beef with Rice. Our dinners together cost only $20.49 + $2.4 tip for a total of $22.89. I'm pretty cheap with tips, right?

We then walk around the Byward Market and stopped at the Sugar Mountain on 71 William Street some sweets and dessert. The jelly beans were pretty cheap at $0.02 per gram and we bought $3.96 worth of it. It was a pretty good deal considering that they sell for $2.99/100g in Montreal.

We started heading back home at 6:30pm and arrived in Chinatown Montreal at 8:00pm. I was the one driving at 120km/h on the way back since the original driver needed to take a nap and I didn't get caught by cops! Our dinner for the night was Cantonese Cuisine at Keung Kee, one of the best Chinese restaurants in Montreal in my opinion and cheap! We had fried tofu, shrimps in a vegeterian wrap, General Tao chicken, pork, jellyfish and oxyster for $17.50 each.

The total spending for the day was $69.35 for my girlfriend and me or $34.66/person. Not bad since a 1 day bus tour at Wonder Travel would have cost us $20 not including the service charge for driver and food!

Geeky Saturday Night

I spent Saturday night at a Second Cup on St-Catherine street playing Nintendo DS with my girlfriend and three other friends in multiplayer mode using the wireless LAN connection.

I don't own a DS and I was playing with my girlfriend's console all night while she was watching me getting destroyed on Battle mode in Mario Kart DS
and Bomberman Land Touch.

We spent three hours there. I shared an Icy Fruit Smoothies, which tasted a lot like ice + water, with my girlfriend and also bought a Green Tea Latte for one of her friend. Total cost for the night $9.93 CAD!

Cheap night, right? :D
